They made me go and talk to this counsellor woman who kept saying ‘But why Elizabeth, why do you think you withheld speech?’. I used to just say ‘I dunno’ til it was time to go home.

But I did know. Sort of.

Okay. So. Paris Hilton isn’t an It Girl. Clara Bow was an It Girl. She was one of the biggest silent film stars ever. The Brooklyn Bonfire. I think we’re really similar. She’s a brunette. I’m a brunette. Her Dad was mentally impaired. My Dad is mentally impaired. She was really good at poker. I’m really good at poker. She married a cowboy. I don’t think I’m getting married but if I did it would probably be to a cowboy.

Anyway, basically she was the best film star, like, ever

But then the talkies started, and the films weren’t silent any more. And it would be fine, except when Clara actually had to speak, she just froze. She couldn’t stop looking at the microphones pushed at her face. She got mike fright. She retired at the age of 26 and never made another film ever again.

But even though Clara Bow couldn’t deal with talking in public, and Paris Hilton could probably talk for fucking hours about fucking anything, I reckon if Clara Bow met Paris Hilton, she’d punch her lights out.

But I don’t think the counsellor woman would have really understood that.

Do you know what day is it today? Yes, I know it’s July the 23rd. But.. do you know what happened on this day? I guess most of you don’t know. What were YOU doing on July the 23rd LAST YEAR? I suppose most of you don’t remember. Well, I do remember what I was doing. I was watching the news on TV.  And they said  Amy Winehouse died.  At first, to be honest, I thought it was a joke, nothing serious, so I went on the internet to check if it was true. She was dead. Just a few days before that, I had listened to her two albums for the first time, Frank and Back To Black. When I found out she was dead, I felt sort of like guilty. Yes. Guilty, because I didn’t actually listened to her music before, I was just fascinated about her lifestyle and problems. But when she died, I felt so empty. Like I actually knew her. I know this sounds like complete bullshit, but since then, I feel like I’m really connected to her somehow. She gives me strength, and she inspires me. She wanted to change.. I have this huge poster of her hanging on the wall right in front of my bed, so I can “watch” her and she can look after me.

If you haven’t listened to her music, I highly reccomend you to do it. She was such a troubled soul. And her voice was really special. She put so much emotion and such deep feelings in her music, in her lyrics. She had so much love in her heart, that the thought of letting it out, scared her to death. She just wanted to be loved back.

Sunday Morning 10 a.m.

Good morning babies! Here it's only 10 a.m. I hate Sundays, they're so boring, and everything seems to stop. But, today I'm feeling rather happy, even though I don't know the reason of this unexpected joy. So.. have a nice day/night/evening/morning and remember to have fun, it's summer! 

By the way, I love this song, and the video is just epic. So, enjoy your summer, and even though you may not like some things about it, or you seem not to have fun, trust me, you'll remember it anyway, and you'll have great memories of it.

In love with the Zombie Boy

Fashion has nothing to do with stability. It is an eternal change. Also, I believe fashion has nothing to do with beautiful things.

I think fashion has to deal with the ugly, the disturbed. The aim of fashion is to give people another perspective of reality, a distorted one, and make the ugly seem beautiful.

For many of you, Rick Genest might not be a beauty icon, but recently he’s become one of the most requested male models in the fashion industry. His body is fully covered by tattoos.  The “Zombie Boy” went bankrupt for he spent all his money on tattoos, and when asked if he had also tattooed his penis, he said he didn’t, because he didn’t have other money for it.

There was a Facebook page dedicated to him, called “I bet this guy will regret getting this tattoo once he’s older”, and that page brought him to fame, when Nicola Formichetti (Director of Vogue Hommes Japan and also, fashion director of the Haus of Gaga) saw him. Formichetti contacted him, and aked him to take a few pictures for the Mugler campaign, then everything is just history. He walked the catwalk for Mugler’s fashion shows, and starred in Lady Gaga’s music video for Born This Way, where she herself was wearing make-up similar to his zombie tattoos.

So, as we can see, beauty has actually nothing to do with fashion. All that matters is creativity, being original, the attitude. Many of you might be scared of Rick Genest, but I’d give anything away just to get to meet him. He’s a very handsome boy, in my opinion, and it’s such a shame he’s got a girlfriend. As Coco Chanel would say, fashion fades, only style remains the same.

Beth Ditto-Big Girls Don't Cry

I guess you all know who Beth Ditto is. Well, if you don't, feel ashamed! Go google her. 

She's not just the lead singer of the indie rock band The Gossip, but she's a real role model for the young kids: she's an advocate for the LGBTQ rights, as she herself is lesbian. She's never made a secret of her sexuality, but she admits it wasn't always easy to accept it and talk about it loud. In her teen years, Beth Ditto "prayed to God" she would fall pregnant, so she could hide her sexuality. The singer realized she was a homosexual at the age of 15, but dated a male pal to avoid attracting the attention of teenage boys in her native Searcy, Arkansas.

Now she's a gay icon, and she feels alright with her sexuality and her body. She has been often criticized for being the reverse of the size 0 model, and some even claimed she was encouraging obesity. But her point of view is quite different: “Girls in general have really nice things to say [about beauty] – especially big girls. It’s mostly men who aren’t as open. I think men fear me sometimes. I played in Greece last summer and, I swear, when I went into the crowd, people actually ran away from me. But things like that make me really happy. You make a decision: if you are going to participate in the music industry and put yourself out there, you have to know that it’s all full of [expletive].”

I admire her so much, because she's such an inspiration, she inspires me to love myself for who I am, and to love my body. She's so self confident, and we should all take her as an example, and learn to love ourselves, and never let anyone tell us we're not thin enough, or we're not beautiful. If you think you're beautiful, other people will perceive you as such. And Beth is beautiful, she's gorgeous and sexy.

It’s really about making an art piece out of what you’ve been handed. It is about being resourceful. When all you have is an ugly sweater-vest, cut it up and make a really cool skirt out of it! Is Lana del Rey your National Anthem?

So, given I have nothing to write of today, I decided to express my feelings about Lana del Rey. 

It's not surprising she has become such a superstar, and many of you might be thinking she's overrated. When I first saw her Born To Die music video, I thought this too. I was actually trying to figure out what did people see in her, she was plain, boring, and even she herself seemed to be way too bored while performing. 

But, I have to admit there was something intriguing in her voice, but most of all, in her attitude. She has that glamorous attitude, sort of Greta Garbo/ Bette Davis. I'm not saying she doesn't seem to be bored, but she actually is bored of life, of material things, and that's what makes her so fascinating to my eyes. If on this side, she's had enough of material things (and if you didn't know, she's the daughter of a very rich man, so I suppose she had everything she ever wanted), there's also the other side, which is even more intriguing, it's the lack. In her songs, she sings mainly of love, of suffering and destruction, or I might say, self-destruction, so we could almost compare her to Amy Winehouse. They both had great voices, love stories that went wrong, alcoholism issues in the past, and the passion for "bad boys".

Her voice is very unique, and I think her album has been so refreshing for the music industry. You could say everything about her music, but you can't say it's commercial. I almost fell asleep the first time I listened to Born To Die, so I wouldn't really call that commercial. I'd just call it "personal". It actually brings you to a state of dreaming, in her world, and you can identify in the lyrics, as we all, less or more, have experienced these feelings. 

For Lana del Rey, the road to fame and success has been very long, as her debut album was released in 2008, "Lana del Ray A.K.A. Lizzy Grant", but it didn't bring her the fame she deserved.

Then she made another attempt, with Born To Die, and she had so many positive reviews from the audience. But, once she became famous, the scandal was just behind the corner: rumors said she had plastic surgery to make her lips bigger. I couldn't care less if she's had plastic surgery or not, I think the only thing that matters is her music. Also, after her performance at the Saturday Night Live, the audience said her performance was actually a disaster, and she couldn't sing live. I think this is so hypocrite. Why can't people just admit that she CAN sing VERY WELL (unlike some other "singers")? Why can't they just appreciate good music and shut up? Have they even seen other live videos of her? Well, I have. And I can say she has a wonderful voice, and she doesn't deserve to dance or shake her ass on the stage to get people to watch her show, and that's honorable.

She often sings about loving an older man, and in the songs she defines herself as Lolita, which makes her even more intriguing. 

I could just go on and talk about her for hours, but I don't want to bother anybody, I just wanted to say what I think about her. She said she wouldn't make another album, for she had nothing left to talk about, but recently I've heard she's planning to release another album this November, and she's already written five songs for it. I can't wait to hear it, because I'm sure she won't let me down.

Marlboro 1 a.m.

So, it's almost 1 a.m. and I can't sleep. It's so hot in here. I can't stop asking myself why am I wasting my time here, when I could be somewhere in Paris, London or NYC shopping at Bergdorf Goodman, having breakfast at Tiffany's or just wearing my new Blahnik stilettos on the Champs Élysées. Am I the only one who feels like she's wasting the summer holidays? The only thing that's keeping me alive these days is watching horror movies. That's my only activity during the day, oh, and enjoying some holy vodka. I've watched The Blair Witch Project, and I think it's a pretty good movie, although it could've been more authentic, because sometimes the actors just seem to be.. acting, and that would not make sense, because at the beginning of the movie they say it's actually the original footage. Anyway, I have also watched Rosemary's Baby, which I have to say was terrifying, I was so scared I couldn't even go to the bathroom. 

So.. this is it! I think I'm going to have some vodka and a fag, then go to sleep. I guess nobody gives a fuck about this, but you know, I was just bored so I thought I'd write another useless post about myself and my extremely boring life. Yeah, I've got a big ego.

Maybe

Have you ever confused a dream with life? Or stolen something when you have the cash? Have you ever been blue? Or thought your train was moving while sitting still? Maybe I was just crazy. Maybe it was the '60's. Or maybe I was just a girl... interrupted.

Why aren't you cool?

Being different has become a sort of trend among us (teenagers, if that's what we are): the thing is, everyone wants to be in the spotlight, everyone seeks attention. We might be defined as the "Attention Whores Generation". By this time, you might be thinking "yeah sure, but you're an attention whore as well". Well, yes, I am one. That's why I'm writing on this blog. 

Stereotypes have always been part of our social life, and somehow, we cannot live without them, as we, ourselves sometimes are the ones who put a big price tag on our face, because we want to identify to a certain type of people, or to a group.

During the last years, being a "freak" has become cool, and I think this is just so hypocrite. People perceive themselves to be who they'd like to be, rather than who they actually are. 

Stereotypes have developed so much: being "emo" was very cool a few years ago, but now everyone hates emo kids and thinks they're just attention whores. That's the point. We're all attention whores. Emo, metal lovers, jersey shore fans, hipsters, you are not "different"! 

Being different reflects on the inside, not on the outside! Being different does not depend on how you dress, or on what kind of music you listen to! Being different is a permanent state of mind, it is a condition that you cannot change, but you can only accept it and live with it. Being different is not a choice! Being different is not cool! The kids that you laugh at, or the ones who are being bullied, or the lonely ones, why aren't they considered cool?! Why don't they fit in? Why aren't they allowed to live as "normal" people and accept they diversity? Oh, of course I didn't mention the LGBT community for a simple reason, because I think there's nothing "not normal" in being gay, transgendered, lesbian or bi!

I think being different has become too mainstream, and the thing is, if you actually want to be different, go against the rules, and just BE YOURSELF (or, at least whoever you think you are).
